The Power Of Podcasting
Brian Howie
PodPopuli Founder and Host of, “The Great Love Debate with Brian Howie”
I still remember the question.
“How come you don’t have a podcast?”
My answer? Far less memorable.
Some mumbled combination of “too busy, too many projects, don’t need it, not interested.”
But the truth was, I simply didn’t know how to do a podcast. What it entailed. Who would listen. How to record. What to talk about.
I had been in the entertainment business for over 20 years when that question was asked.
I had produced television shows, published books, recorded songs, directed theater, written screenplays, hosted live events; yet the idea of figuring out how to record a podcast somehow had me flummoxed.
But soon after the question was posed to me, Adam Carolla’s team – some of the earliest and most successful pioneers of the medium – said, “don’t worry about all that, just talk, trust us, and we will handle the rest.” And I did, and they did, and one show turned into another, and another, and before I knew it I was not only hosting some of the top-rated podcasts in the world, I was having the greatest professional experience of my career. I had never felt such creative freedom, I had never had such a deep connection, never laughed more, never had as much fun as I did behind a podcast microphone. Enlightening, empowering, entertaining, and engaging, podcasting had become the easiest content to produce, distribute, and consume of any entertainment endeavor I had ever been a part of.
I have spent most of two decades in show business as a story-teller, and there is no better way to tell a story – of who you are, what you believe, what you are passionate about, and what you dream of. So we founded PodPopuli, where we can bring the ease and joy of being a podcast host to every member of a community. Do you know the old adage, “Everyone has a book in them?” Well, that remains true, whether it be 200 pages hidden in a nightstand, or in their head waiting to come out.
But podcasting is the modern, more accessible incarnation of that belief – everyone has something to say, and someone who wants to hear it. The best podcasts are the ones that make the listener feel as though they were out to brunch with the host and/or guests. And isn’t everyone capable of having a great brunch?
So that is what we are cooking up for communities through PodPopuli – engaging content brought to you by moms, kids, business owners, coaches, thought leaders, local influencers, or anyone with a passion project and a desire to share. We break down the barriers to entry – and our all-too-human hesitancy – so that “I don’t know how” becomes “When can I begin?”
If you’ve ever had a blog, you need to have a podcast. If you’ve ever had a Facebook page, you are ready for a podcast. If you’ve ever wanted to write something, say it on a podcast. If you ever dreamed of your imagination finding an outlet, it’s time to have a podcast. And if you’ve ever wanted to connect more meaningfully, you will through your podcast.
There’s your answer.
